The 14th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) grandly commenced today, bringing together over 700 enterprises from 59 countries to discuss the future of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A central focus of the 2026 forum is the "Silver Economy," specifically how "wellness tourism" can be tailored to the world’s aging population. Experts at the high-level summit noted that "older adults" are no longer seeking "single trips" but rather "integrated health journeys" that include risk assessment, health data collection, and sustainable lifestyle interventions.

The "wellness market" is also seeing a "generational blurring," with younger travelers increasingly participating in "family-based wellness retreats." Macao is positioning itself as a "precise connector" between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, leveraging its "intangible cultural heritage" to create "immersive healing experiences." This "high-quality development strategy" aims to "revitalize the regional economy" by moving beyond "traditional gaming and entertainment" toward "holistic medical tourism."

The Macao Expo signals a "surge in curated health travel" options across the region. The event features 1,517 booths and an "online business matching system" to foster "corporate collaboration" between "wellness providers and travel agencies." As Macao's total arrivals surpassed 40 million in 2025, the territory is "doubling down" on "product diversity" to maintain its "competitive edge" in Asia. This "wellness pivot" is expected to "redefine the city's identity" for the "next generation of global travelers."
