Mexico’s Caribbean Revamps, Adds Luxury Options
Between January and March 2024, Mexico’s Caribbean welcomed over 5.4 million tourists, according to a report from Quintana Roo’s Ministry of Tourism. The region remains one of the top tourist destinations, especially with the growth of high-end offerings and the opening of hotels under Hyatt Inclusive Collection.
Cancún, the iconic destination in Mexico’s Quintana Roo, has proven its ability to reinvent itself over the years. While nearby destinations like Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, and the Riviera Maya have gained popularity, Cancún continues to attract millions of tourists, particularly from the U.S. and Canada.
Overall, Mexico’s Caribbean has experienced steady tourism growth. Between January and July 2024, Mexico welcomed more than 25.8 million international tourists, a 5.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). Cancún and other destinations in Quintana Roo have benefited from this influx, with 71.4% of tourists being international visitors.
