Monterey Beach Hotel Reopens After Major Transformation

Monterey Beach Hotel, the only beachfront hotel along the Monterey Peninsula, has reopened today following a comprehensive renovation and rebranding effort led by Ascendant Capital Partners, Highgate, and Centerbridge Partners.
Now part of the Marriott Tribute Portfolio, the hotel features 192 guest rooms, including four suites, along with newly designed meeting and event spaces, and revamped culinary venues.
Situated near downtown Monterey and along Highway 1, the hotel now reflects the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness, thanks to a design overhaul by LA-based Indidesign, with project management by LUCID, Highgate’s in-house studio. The transformation captures the essence of California living, blending indoor and outdoor spaces to showcase stunning ocean views.
"Monterey Beach Hotel is a celebration of the Monterey Peninsula’s unique charm, merging modern design with the coastal experience," said Alex Halpern, Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Ascendant. "We’re thrilled to reintroduce this iconic property with a fresh aesthetic and elevated experiences."
The hotel now offers three distinctive culinary venues – Lobby Lounge, The Lantern Room, and Tidewater – each featuring chef-driven menus that highlight the flavors of central California. Led by Resident Culinary Advisor Paul Corsentino and Executive Chef Jose Velasquez, the dining options are complemented by a curated wine program in collaboration with local winemaker Ian Brand.
Beyond its private beach and panoramic views, Monterey Beach Hotel offers amenities like a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, and upcoming Scandinavian-inspired contrast therapy. The hotel also boasts over 7,500 sq. ft. of versatile event space and 32,500 sq. ft. of private beach access, catering to everything from beachside weddings to corporate retreats.
"With our reimagined offerings and premium hospitality, we’re excited to welcome guests to Monterey Beach Hotel," said Nathan Hanner, General Manager.
Reservations are now open, with rates starting at $350 per night. The Lantern Room is also open for breakfast and dinner, with reservations available via OpenTable.
