Moon Palace Punta Cana to Open in 2022

Palace Resorts' Moon Palace Punta Cana, currently under construction, has announced an opening date of 2022.

An additional 1,250 rooms are planned and will be added at a later date, according to executive vice president Gibran Chapur. The addition would bring the total room count to 3,350.

The all-inclusive complex will include 20 restaurants, nine bars, seven pools, a waterpark, a golf course, a spa, a casino, a convention center and a housing community for hotel staff.

At the announcement of the expansion, Chapur described the Dominican Republic as a safe tourist destination that will continue growing and developing, and he said Palace Resorts would continue to invest in in its tourist sector.

He also said that the recent safety issues that have affected the D.R. were a "circumstantial situation resulting from the high-volume tourist influx that the country has welcomed in recent years."

The D.R.'s tourism minister, Francisco Xavier Garcia, said that the country has "undertaken the necessary actions to counteract the recent events. We will always work towards continuing to improve and especially prevent these situations from ever taking place again."
