On Nov. 5, Disney Cruise Line announced a new destination for its family cruises departing from Galveston, Texas. Starting in late 2013, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) will add Jamaica to its ports of call.
DCL’s seven-night Western Caribbean sailings will add a stop at Falmouth, Jamaica, as well as Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico to the fall 2013 Galveston schedule aboard the Disney Wonder.
Falmouth, located on Jamaica’s north coast between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, is one of the Caribbean’s best-preserved Georgian towns and was established in 1790. While visiting the port, Disney guests will be able to sample the city’s history and culture, architecture and natural beauty, food and shopping.
Falmouth offers a number of things cruisers might enjoy. Among the many things to see and do, complementing those DCL suggests, are snorkeling and beach-going, architectural sightseeing the Falmouth Historic District, learning how rum is made at the Appleton Estate, experiencing the Albert George Shopping and Historical Centre, taking dolphin or zipline tours; visiting the Greenwood Great House antique museum, touring grotto caves or enjoying adventure trails.
Seatrade Insider named the Port of Falmouth the 2011 “Port of the Year,” an award that recognizes the improvements a port authority or port management company which has made to handling facilities and cruise-tourism infrastructure over the past year. Falmouth was added as Jamaican fourth port in 2011.
DCL also released a second itinerary for fall 2013. Disney will offer seven-night Bahamas cruises out of Galveston, calling on Key West, Nassau, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
Rates start at $840 per person for these seven-night DCL sailing out of Galveston. Prices are based on a standard inside stateroom, double occupancy, and do not include taxes, fees and Port Adventures.
