Another Tourist Falls to His Death at Grand Canyon

Another person fell to their death from a cliff at Grand Canyon National Park Tuesday, marking the second tourist casualty at the popular destination in 2019.

According to ABCNews.com, a 70-year-old woman who was not identified fell from the South Rim Tuesday afternoon. By the time the park rangers received the call of a woman in distress and arrived at the scene, the woman had fallen.

Grand Canyon officials rounded up a rescue team of around 15 people and utilized the park’s helicopter to locate and recover the body of the woman, who fell approximately 200 feet below the South Rim. Authorities are investigating how the woman fell, but details remain unclear.

On April 3, a 67-year-old man died after falling around 400 feet from the South Rim. In 2017, the Grand Canyon park rangers encountered 1,135 emergency medical service incidents, 290 search and rescue incidents and 20 overall fatalities.
