In a historic first for the European Union's civil protection mechanism, rescEU passenger planes were activated to evacuate hundreds of citizens from the escalating war zone in the Middle East.

The mission successfully returned 356 European nationals to their home countries this morning, marking the first time the EU has used its dedicated "emergency aviation capacity" for consular support.

The operation comes as the regional conflict enters its second week, with Iranian retaliatory strikes continuing to destabilize major air corridors and leave thousands of foreign nationals "stranded in a strategic vacuum."

The European Commission has confirmed that its Civil Protection Mechanism is working "day and night" to coordinate transport and operational costs for these high-risk flights.

As commercial aviation remains largely paralyzed across the Persian Gulf, these "white-tail" government flights represent the only reliable "lifeline" for travelers stuck in Doha, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi
