In Italian, "matrimonio" means wedding. Add the word "planner," and you have a burgeoning profession in Italy, where organizing that perfect "yes" is becoming an art form. While the role of a wedding planner is well-established in Anglo-Saxon countries, particularly in the United States, where they handle every detail with professionalism and an impartial eye, Italy is catching up fast.

A wedding planner orchestrates every aspect of the event, from church decorations to floral arrangements, attire selection, and even the flow of the ceremony and celebration. Essentially, they are the directors behind the scenes of a couple’s big day. And in Italy, a country revered for its iconic backdrops like Lake Como, Venice, Rome, and the Tuscan countryside, the demand for these picture-perfect weddings continues to grow. Every year, around 14,000 couples travel to Italy to celebrate their unions, and there is now a need to explore other lesser-known but equally magical locations.

This is where the southern coast of Sardinia, particularly Villasimius, enters the scene. With its pristine beaches and enchanting landscapes, it has all the ingredients to become the next hot spot for luxurious weddings. Wedding planner Ivonne Concu, from Cagliari, has initiated a project to showcase this region’s potential, with the backing of Mayor Gianluca Dessì. Together, they’ve invited elite wedding professionals from around the world to explore the area's untapped beauty.

“I’ve curated a group of world-class professionals,” Concu explains, “to introduce them to what this incredible territory has to offer. Sardinia is much more than just beaches; it’s a place full of surprises.” Among the guests were luminaries like Amie Bone from London, who once crafted a £250,000 wedding bouquet, and Kewlani Maggi and Rahul Kumar, who orchestrated a four-day Indian wedding that closed Disneyland Paris to the public. These are the visionaries behind star-studded, jet-set weddings.

Their journey through southern Sardinia left them spellbound. Mayor Gianluca Dessì expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, emphasizing the importance of diversifying Sardinia’s tourism offerings: “Sardinia is not just a three-month tourism destination; it has attractions year-round. Weddings offer an exciting opportunity to maintain the vibrancy of the region.”

The expert panel’s meeting with local businesses and service providers further underscored the area's readiness to host high-end wedding tourism. From accommodations to event services, Villasimius has proven it can cater to the most demanding of clients.

As Amie Bone enthused, “Your country is spectacular, and there’s so much more beyond the well-known spots. The discovery of this unspoiled land has left a lasting impression.”

Percy Sales, from Santa Barbara, California, echoed these sentiments, captivated by Sardinia’s stunning coastline, lifestyle, and charm. “Not only do I want to bring weddings here, but I’m also considering buying a home,” he admitted, reflecting the deep impression the region made on him.

The accommodation offerings also dazzled. The luxurious Pullman Almar Timi Ama Resort & Spa, with its 254 elegant rooms, is a standout. Nestled in the bay of Porto Giunco, it’s more than just an upscale hotel—it’s a holistic destination complete with a marine spa, a golf course, and gourmet restaurants, ideal for weddings.

The Falkensteiner Capo Boi, located in the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara, is equally enchanting, with its private white sand beach and lush surroundings that exude Mediterranean beauty. Guests are treated to Moorish-inspired architecture, and the fusion of local and exotic cuisines makes it an exceptional venue.

The smaller but charming 4-star Stella Maris Hotel, surrounded by pine forests and overlooking Campulongu Beach, provides an intimate atmosphere perfect for unique ceremonies. Meanwhile, the nearby Cruccùris Resort, also a 4-star property, offers secluded villas and a serene village-like ambiance.

Verena Kindermann, from Graz, was particularly impressed by the range and quality of the accommodations: “Sardinia offers a high-level product that surpasses expectations, making it an ideal destination for unforgettable weddings.”

For Fabio Musetti, a London-based concierge and ambassador, the experience has unveiled a destination brimming with potential. “Outside the peak summer months, this area is a paradise waiting to be discovered by a discerning clientele.”

The Cormoran Hotel & Residence, another noteworthy 4-star venue, sits directly on the shores of Campus Beach. Surrounded by Mediterranean flora and granite formations, the location’s proximity to Cagliari—just an hour’s drive away—adds to its allure, making it an ideal setting for both weddings and events.

Beyond the stunning accommodations, the region offers a host of unforgettable experiences. Guests can take a boat trip across Sardinia’s crystal-clear waters or explore the coastline on a Vespa. They can visit historic sites like the 14th-century fortress that overlooks the marina or enjoy an aperitif at sunset under the lighthouse of Isola dei Cavoli.

Rahul Kumar and Kewlani Maggi of Dubai’s Vivaah Celebrations summed up the experience beautifully: “True luxury is found in authentic experiences, not in how much you spend. Sardinia offers that in abundance.”

The captivating landscapes and vibrant culture were also a photographer’s dream. Antonio Matera, an esteemed wedding photographer, and content creator Yuri Gregori captured every moment, emphasizing the sheer beauty of the region.

Matteo Tosi, a marketing and PR expert, highlighted the strategic success of introducing this magical location to high-profile partners. “By showcasing the destination firsthand, we’ve not only sparked interest but also created a lasting emotional connection, turning Villasimius into an irresistible choice.”

As the trip came to a close, it was clear that this once-hidden gem has everything needed to become a top-tier wedding destination. Sardinia’s timeless charm, paired with its readiness to cater to high-end events, promises couples an unforgettable setting for their special day.

"I deal with event direction and I believe that this Sardinia deserves much more than seaside tourism - comments Alessandra Moretti - what we have seen is a masterpiece of scenography that just needs to be filled with extras to have the perfect event".

But as every fairy tale ends, the time comes to return to reality and tell this experience, with the final comment by Victoria Kursova Olivieri, Palazzo Eventi and Maria Saviano, event planner in Naples: "It is said that Italy is kissed by God, and we believe Sardinia has been twice!"
