The 12th Annual Cashew Festival in Belize Will Soon Be on the Stream

Those cashew lovers can come to Belize, May 7-9, when the beautiful English-speaking Caribbean country celebrates this plentiful crop with an array of colorful festivities and delicious samplings.

From cookies, cakes and fudge to the more exotic tastes of cashew jellies, syrups and even wine, Belize´s Cashew Festival features an assortment of delectable dishes in celebration of the cashew nut. In addition, visitors can watch demonstrations of the harvesting techniques and the preparation process of the cashew nut as well as learn first-hand how to make these local treats.

Since its inception in 1993, the Cashew Festival continues to be a wonderful example of community-driven conservation, for which Belize is well-known. In addition to the vast selection of cashew delicacies and local Caribbean dishes, the celebration will include lively Punta and salsa music, dancing, storytelling, folklore performances, displays of local handicrafts, as well as the crowning of the Miss Cashew Queen.

The Cashew Festival presents a unique opportunity for visitors to learn first-hand about the many foods and cultures of Belize. In addition to the bird watching and festival happenings, visitors can round out their vacations with trips to nearby Maya sites, cave exploration and cave tubing, canoeing, horseback riding or even trips out to the islands along Belize´s barrier reef.
