12th Edition of “Baila en Cuba” Coming in November
The much-anticipated event among casino and salsa enthusiasts around the world, Baila en Cuba, World Event for Casino and Salsa Dancers and Dance Academies, is scheduled to hold its twelfth edition on November 12-17, in Havana.
Dedicated to the Hispanic mark in Cuban dance expressions, it once again offers a comprehensive program made up of dance lessons related to different genres of Cuban music and night concerts performed by prestigious casino and salsa bands, which are included in the catalogs of Musicalia and Clave Cubana, artistic representation agencies managed by Cuban holding Artex S.A.
The teaching program will be developed at the National Art School (ENA is the Spanish acronym), the flagship institution in terms of artistic teaching in Cuba and main breeding ground for Art and Culture artists and professionals in the country. The students will be given two hours and half in the morning and two in the afternoon.
The overall schedule includes three hours of lessons in the morning and two in the afternoon. The three lesson shifts in the mornings will be focused on optional workshops devoted to different rhythms and their combination with Cuban dance music, such as Danzon, Son, Mambo, Chachacha, Rumba, Arara, Flamenco, Guiro, Congo Dances, Santeria Dances, Abakua Dances, Chancleta, French-Haitian Dances, country dances from different Cuban regions: Nengon, Rompia de Genaro, Kiriba,Guanche, El esqueleto, El Pompore, karinga and others.
The afternoon lessons are going to deal with casino dance, except for Wednesdays when the afternoon will be off for students to enjoy an array of optional offers prepared by Paradiso, cultural tourism agency, also managed by Artex S.A.
The program of night concerts features the usual dance music bands and representatives of Spanish music.
Habana Compás Dance group and Bamboleo and Alain Daniel y su grupo bands are going to play the leading role during the opening gala, on November 12, to be hosted by up-to-date Artex S.A.’s cultural center, En Guayabera, nestled in Alamar, East Havana.
The rest of concerts are going to take place at “Benny Moré” Salón Rosado de La Tropical, another Artex S.A.’s cultural center. Known as the Palace of Dancers, this is one of the utmost stages for urban popular music in Cuba. It has hosted performances by stars of Cuban popular music, ranging from Arsenio Rodriguez, to Van Van, Carlos Varela, Kelvin Ochoa, among others.
On November 13, the attendees will enjoy performances by Reinier Mariño, Pupy y los que Son Son and Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco; the 14th will have the Cuban Television Ballet with a Spanish dance choreography, NG La Banda and Alexander Abreu y Havana D´Primera on stage; Irene Rodríguez y su Compañía, Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor and Pachito Alonso y sus Kini Kini on Nov 15th; and the 16th will be the moment for Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Haila y su grupo and Elito Revé y su Charangón.
Paulo FG y su Élite and Juan Formell y los Van Van will be in charge of the closing concert for the twelfth edition of Baila en Cuba, on November 17, also at “Benny Moré” Salón Rosado de La Tropical
