The sixth edition of Jardines del Rey Tourism Fair came to a successful close in this destination north of the Ciego de Avila province with the presentation of the Silver Ibis Awards to the most outstanding tour operators, travel agencies and top choices in 2002.

The lion’s share this time around went to Canada-based carrier Air Transat and British tour operator JMC as the two top tourist providers for the ten hotels perched on Coco and Guillermo keys.

Cubanacan Viajes –a tourist reception agency- and Jungle Tours both walked off with awards for their grade-making acceptance among visitors and the possibility of bringing them closer to enjoying and learning about the area’s flora and wildlife.

All institutions awarded with the Silver Ibis –named after an endemic bird from this neck of the woods- doubled up their own programs in the course of 2002 to help this destination, penciled in as Cuba’s third tourist heavyweight overall, post yearend winning figures as far as vacationers and revenues are concerned.

Jardines del Rey is looking to the incoming year with further product diversification, more promotion focused on multi-destination and the chance of hosting world jazz and salsa festivals.
