American Airlines Starts Scheduled Flights to Cuba

American Airlines, one of the top airlines in the United States with historic presence in Cuba, is slated to begin scheduled flights to Cuba on Wednesday August 7, 11:00 am, to Cienfuegos City’s “Jaime Gonzalez” International Airport, in central Cuba.
Andrew Nocella, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of American Airlines, will be on the inaugural flight to Cienfuegos, along with other personalities. The company is also going to fly to Holguin City on the very August 7.
The welcome ceremony at Cienfuegos’ airport will include the traditional baptism of the airplane, an international practice that takes place during the first flight of a new route between two destinations.
With 56 weekly scheduled flights to Cuba, American Airlines is also going to fly to Santa Clara and Camagüey (Friday, September 9) and Varadero (Sunday, September 11).
The Vice President of American Airlines, Mr. Stephen Johnson, is said to arrive in Varadero’s “Juan Gualberto Gomez” International Airport with the inaugural flight, on Sunday September 11. Mr. Johnson will be welcomed by authorities and executives of the province, from Cuba’s Civil Aeronautics Institute (IACC) and CACSA.
American Airlines’ speaker, Martha Pantin, said that the preparations to fly to the island nation included sending computers and other logistic elements to a Cuba, as well as training Cuban employees to process passengers.
The airline is planning to fit out special cabins at the check in area of Miami International Airport so travelers can buy Cuban medical insurances and have access to other visa-related services.
