Antigua’s Local Pageant Scheduled for Tourism Week

Seven young women have been selected as delegates for the 2011 Miss Parish Queen Pageant.  The pageant, which has been in the planning and development stage since last year, is being staged on Saturday, November 26, at 8 pm at the Dean William Lake Cultural Centre.

The date was chosen to coincide with the annual Tourism Week organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture and usually takes place around that time of the year.

The delegates are Kimberly King, Shemeber Whaul, Karina Alexander, Rhea Pluck, Thalia Joseph, Helina Hewlett and Jovanna December.

Miss Parish Queen Pageant is not new to Antigua as it was originally staged at the Deluxe Cinema during the Village Pageant era.  It has been rebranded and is now being produced by Signature Events, a new event planning and management business on the island.

According to a statement from the organizers, “The objective of this production is to highlight the very strong attributes of our twin-island-state through competitive innovative performances, intellectual conversations and dialogues, historical facts and unmatched Caribbean beauty.

Based on the performances and suitability, the selected Miss Parish Queen will have the opportunity to represent Antigua & Barbuda at Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant in Nevis, Miss United Nations Pageant in Utah and Miss Caribbean Tourism Pageant.

The pageant has received the endorsement of the Minister of State with responsibility for Culture Eleston Adams.
