The Turks & Caicos Islands are gearing up to host the 2006 International Film Festival scheduled to take place from October 17 to 21 in Providenciales.

Leading up to the event, officials from the Ministry of Tourism have held promotional events in cities throughout the United States with the most recent held in Atlanta on September 23.

The 2006 Film Festival, according to Premier and Minister of Tourism, Michael Misick, is organized in a manner to set it a part from all others in the region. “We want to make the Turks and Caicos Islands Film Festival the Cannes of the region,” said Mr. Misick.

He also noted that the number of persons that the event will draw to the shores of the Turks and Caicos Islands is yet another means of helping people to discover the jewel of the Caribbean.

The TCIFF boasts an elite advisory board representing leaders in the worlds of entertainment and business. Members such as Bruce Willis, Oscar-winning Director Paul Haggis, and BET Founder Bob Johnson will ensure that the Festival maintains a prestige that only a few others could hope to match.
