Barbados meeting seeks to spur tourism cooperation

Caribbean countries will give tourism cooperation a big leg up during a two-day meeting scheduled for July 17 to 18 in Barbados.

Jean Holder, secretary-general of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), underscored the important role both private and public sectors should play in clinching the leisure industry´s development and providing leadership to the prosperity process within that sector.

Mr. Holder said there are many elements linked to globalization and information technology that are throwing their weight around tourism development and prompting the need to streamline structures and systems currently in use. The big challenge for this industry, Mr. Holder went on to say, hinges on the creation of higher quality service.

The meeting is the first in a series of steps aimed at helping to turn those regional organizations within the industry into better and more efficient entities capable of operating like clockwork in today´s ever-growing and restless world.
