CARICOM IMPACS Security Partnership with Interpol Moves Forward
Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble has expressed continued commitment to enhancing the partnership between Interpol and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in securing the region.
Mr. Noble said Interpol is steadfast in helping all CWC host countries secure the region’s borders by allowing the region’s security officials access to Interpol’s global border protection network –part of which is a database- which will be fully operational before the start of Cricket World Cup 2007.
Interpol officers are also included at CARICOM’s Regional Intelligence Fusion Centre located in Trinidad, which means immediate and centralized access to other Interpol services and databases for CARICOM security and intelligence officials.
This is further complemented by the operations of Interpol’s national central bureaus (NCB) in all CARICOM member states. This revolutionary security measure has already enabled the barring of 29 persons from entering the region since its implementation two months ago.
IMPACS, which in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, coordinated the Secretary General’s visit, has expressed gratitude to Mr. Noble and Interpol for having supported the region’s security efforts, so making it difficult for unwanted elements to enter the region.
