Central American presidents to talk about tourism and culture in December

Central American presidents will huddle next Dec. 13 in San Jose, Costa Rica, to hold their 22nd Summit Meeting. Tourism and culture are high on the presidents’ agenda, Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Trovar announced.

Mr. Trovar said in a meeting with members of the Foreign Press Association (APEX is the acronym in Spanish) the summit will open up an opportunity for statesmen to broach the implementation of a promotional strategy on international tourism toward Central America known as “multi-destinations.”

The idea –the Costa Rican Minister pointed out- is to promote travel to the region in two-country packages in order to lower costs. A case in point of the multi-destination strategy is a package offering a combined trip to the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

In this particular case, the promotional effort will beam at sun-and-beach tourism in Dominican beaches followed by the choice of ecological tourism in different parts of Costa Rica.

The December summit will also provide presidents with an opportunity to talk about culture, childhood, agriculture and the Free Trade Agreement with the United States, an issue Central American nations as a bloc will start bargaining early next year.
