Conference on Travel Destination Management Strategies Held in Madrid

Members of the public sector, travel destination managers and institutions from over 25 countries attended the DRH.WTO conference “Building Structures for Tourism Policies and Destination Management”, held on June 2 and 3 at the Madrid Conference Center.

Participants huddled in the Spanish capital to discuss the latest research studies on tourism policies and strategies in the field of travel destination management, as well as to touch on methodology and related strategies that make certain travel destinations go great guns.

The conference set up conceptual structures for the application of tourism expertise and in order to respond to emerging problems that have been estranging government authorities and destination managers since 2001.

The DRH.WTO and the WTO’s Education Council sketch out and execute their own plans in an effort to put research and academic institutions in sync with tourism authorities and policymakers.

Attendants broached matters from different angles while scholars, researchers and educators tapped into such topics as organizations and interest groups in travel destinations, successful models for travel destinations, management of protected areas for the development of ecotourism in Latin America, and the impact of rural advancement policies on inland travel destinations.

The meeting also made room for politicians and government officials, regional and local organizations, as well as for other institutions linked to the leisure industry.
