Construction of Santiago de Cuba’s Port Terminal Kicks Off

The construction of Santiago de Cuba’s new Multipurpose Port Terminal was officially started on June 1st, as the investment financing was authorized to China Communication Construction Company LTD.
The terminal will be based at the northeastern area of the bay and, just as reported, the project costs 120 million dollars, a credit given by the Chinese Government. Once it is totally operational, it is going to have capacity for 565 thousand tons a year and it’ll be ready to receive vessels up to 40 thousand tons, instead of the 20 thousand tons it presently processes.
Due to the delay in the beginning of the construction, it won’t be done by 2017 as it had been announced, but in May 2018, according to Engineer Walter Niubo Medina, head of the project.
This work is part of the series of actions that are being carried out along the coast of Santiago, within the framework of the 500th anniversary of the village, so the people can enjoy and benefit.
The new Port Terminal will contribute to optimize the transportation of merchandise and improve the economy of the eastern provinces and beyond.
