Costa Rica to Host Rural Tourism Fair

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute will hold a fair on community rural tourism in early December with a view to foster the advance of that particular activity as a model of sustainable development in the country and across Central America.

The fair will take place from December 3 to 5 on the premises of the National Biodiversity Institute as an alternative for tourists willing to see the country´s rural areas, learn about the traditions and customs of its residents, and share with members of local communities.

The tradeshow is endorsed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and will be visited by over two dozen Central American representatives eager to take a firsthand look at the Costa Rican tourism development model, as well as to find ways to implement those policies in their own countries.

Since 1990, Costa Rican authorities have been earmarking increasingly larger funds for impoverished countryside communities with great cultural and cultural values. The end goal of that cash flow is to create jobs and generate new income sources for poor families.
