Cruise Season in Central America Bears Watching

The 2007-2008 cruise season in Central America seems promising, as experts have predicted a significant increase in tourist arrivals. Estimates show a 7.4-percent increase in Costa Rica, while 91 ships carrying 51,000 travelers are expected in Guatemala.

According to statistics, 176 cruise ships carrying 372,000 passengers will dock in Honduras, mainly on the Caribbean beaches on Bay Islands (Roatan, Guanaja and Utila).

Nicaragua will be visited by 36 cruise boats carrying 30,200 travelers, and Panama will report a 33-percent increase in tourist arrivals. Belize and El Salvador also expect a growth in cruise tourism, although estimates have not been released.
