Cuba´s Biggest Caribbean Tradeshow Gets Media Hype

Cuba´s Chamber of Commerce (CCC) summoned domestic and foreign companies stationed in eastern Cuba to attend the 13th edition of EXPOCARIBE, the biggest business marketplace in the Caribbean.

EXPOCARIBE 2005 will take place from June 19 to 24 at the Heredia Convention Center in Santiago de Cuba, its traditional host city since 1992.

Within the framework of the most important business tradeshow for national companies and enterprises, recently held in Holguin, CCC officials stressed the relevance of this fair for both Cuba and the Caribbean community of nations.

Luis Gutierrez, chief of Fairs and Exhibits at the CCC, explained efforts are underway on the island nation and overseas to reel in a more massive turnout to the event in Santiago de Cuba.

During the 2003 edition, the fair gathered representatives from 30 countries, with 40 percent of them hailing from the Caribbean islands. Last year, however, local authorities agreed to put the fair on hold due to the dire financial situation that several national and international enterprises were enduring at the time.

During that break, the Organizing Committee assessed the achievements of EXPOCARIBE and revamped a number of foundational concepts to try to make it a far more attractive show that meets its economic and commercial goals.
