Cuba Calls to Discuss Yoruba Cultural Values

The Eighth International Ortiz-Lachatañere Workshop on African Identity in the Caribbean will come around in Havana from April 5 to 9 next year with the attendance of boldface names from literature, linguistics, philosophy, religion, music and dancing.

The event is reportedly aimed at debating the scientific going of social sciences in the fields that both Fernando Ortiz and Romulo Lachatañere devoted most of their lives to.

The 2005 edition will be dedicated to research studies on the Yoruba civilization, its presence and permanence in the Americas and the Caribbean.

The workshop is sponsored by the Fernando Ortiz African Cultural Center, the Romulo Lachatañere Center of African-Caribbean Studies, and the UNESCO Center of African-Hispanic Studies at the Spanish University of Alcala, among other institutions.
