Cuba denies agreement on events, incentives with Central America

Contrary to what some news outlets have been reporting, Cuba’s Convention Bureau (BCC) rebuffed in an official press release the establishment of any alliance with its Central American counterparts to boost event and fair tourism in the region.

At the same time, the BCC denied any participation in a meeting held in Guatemala with a view to sign such an agreement.

Nonetheless, the BCC recognizes the existence of such an initiative. “Indeed, this project was broached as a primary idea during the Honduras Forum held last year, but no formal agreement has been signed yet.” The communiqué states that Cuba was completely unaware of that alleged meeting that seemingly took place in Guatemala.

The press release issued by Cuba’s Convention Bureau goes on to express that “Cuba agrees to assess mutually advantageous alliances with Central America. Yet, referring to a governmental appraisal on this matter and the signing of an impending agreement –as some media groups have reported- is misleading and generates confusion.
