Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico to attend Ecotur, Italy’s tradeshow on nature tourism

Montesilvano – Pescara, Italy._ With as many as 15,000 people who toured the 170 stands, the 12th Nature Tourism Fair Ecotur 2002 ground to a halt after a successful four-day tenure at the spanking-new Conference Palace of Montesilvano in the Italian province of Pescara.

For the first time ever, the meeting showcased samples from Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico, three countries that contributed attractive offers from Latin America and whose stands were well received by the public.

Enzo Brilli and Teresa Beltran were in charge of presenting Guatemala’s attractions caught in the nation’s traditional and motley ethnic decoration, while Angeles Hernandez ran Mexico’s well-stocked stand. Cubanacan’s Office in Italy –represented by Rodolfo Rodriguez- pieced together the presentation of Cuba’s natural attractions, always a seducing package for Italians.

The tradeshow –specialized in displaying the rich offer of Italy’s regions and provinces- was led by the region of Abruzzo and the four local provinces of Chieti, L´Aquila, Pescara and Teramo. Countries with close-knit economic and tourist relationships with Italy also attended the meeting.

The participation of Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico was joined by Croatia, Slovenia, Spain and Tunisia.

Cuba’s debut in Ecotur 2002 was heightened by the brotherhood of the Italian region of Abruzzo and the Cuban province of Holguin, pulled off this year in the context of the UN-sponsored PDHL project and out of an initiative thought up by officials at the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association.

A few days before, Dr. Guido D´Urbano, a cabinet official in Abruzzo’s Presidential Council, met in Holguin with his counterpart Oscar Lugo Gonzalez to hand in a letter signed by Abruzzo’s President Giuseppe Tagliente, confirming his region’s interest and willingness to forge a brotherhood with the eastern province of Holguin.
