Cuba to hold debates on tourism, economic impact

Some 150 Cuban and foreign experts linked to the leisure industry will huddle on the island nation to discuss the sector’s development and impact on world economies, a source close to the event revealed.

According to local weekly Options, the gathering will take place in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba within the framework of an international event on tourism management and development scheduled for May 28 to 31.

The same source pointed out attendants will mull over globlalization, tourist product quality and competitiveness, accounting, finances, auditing, health, information, legislation and other topics related to the hospitality industry.

Cuba’s National Association of Economists, Cubanacan S.A. and the University of Eastern Cuba will sponsor the event in an effort to raise tourism efficiency by means of constructive exchange.

The recently concluded 23rd Tourism Convention in Cuba laid bare the island nation has been off to a good start this year with a 19 percent growth overall compared to the same span of time in 2002.
