Cuba to host German tour operator TUI’s upcoming World Convention

Cuba’s destinations of Varadero and Jardines del Rey will host the World Convention of TUI, the Germany-based tour operator, scheduled to take place from Nov. 27 to Dec. 18 with the attendance of 600 delegates from roughly a dozen countries under a commercial outlay.

Organized by Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism, Cubanacan Corporation S.A. and Spanish group Sol-Meliá, the event will serve to promote development strategies and perspectives from the island nation’s premiere tourist destinations like Jardines del Rey.

Eduardo Guillermo, general manager of the Meliá Cayo Guillermo Hotel –one of the meeting’s hosting spots- underlined that participants will have the chance of getting acquainted with the northern keys of Ciego de Avila, a location some 500km east of Havana, as they are expected to pay visits to Cayo Coco’s brand-new international airport, the El Baga Nature Park and the eight hotels owned by Sol Meliá in this area of beaches and wild nature.

Mr. Perera pointed out most of the convention will be devoted to nautical and nature-oriented activities given the beauties and preservation of the flora and wildlife in a region that boasts the world’s second-largest coral reef barrier.

The event –Mr. Perera went on to say- holds a tremendous importance for the tourist circuit since Germany is one of the keys’ heavyweight sending markets, not to mention the fact that it hypes TUI as the island nation’s major tour operator.
