Cuba is in for a peaceful, healthy and safe tourism

Conrado Martinez Corona, chairman of Cuba’s Convention Bureau, talked to Caribbean News on the presentation of the Cuban destination for incentive travel and events at a time when the island nation advocates for a healthy, peaceful and safe tourism.

“For the first time, the primary sense of a tourism convention will revolve on the issue of incentive travel, congress and conventions. This is something that no doubt embraces great significance for the Convention Bureau that turned twenty years old just a few days ago.”

“Cuba has a huge experience and expertise under its belt as far as planning events is concerned, not only because of the professional way it handles things, its infrastructure and the cultural and technical foundations it has built, but also because it can serve as a host to an event that usually goes around from one country to another, and it could very well fall on the island nation.”

“We’re working on the development of territorial delegations. That will allow experiences from one territory to be applied for the sake of all mankind and of those willing to come to Cuba. On the other hand, we try to upgrade the kind of service that we provide by better training our professionals and experts in that particular sector. We must grab more slots in specialized publications, have a stronger presence in international tradeshows and fairs and get ads in as many websites as we can.”

“Cuba scored pretty well during the first edition of the International Meeting Exposition (IMEX), a fair that took place from April 8 to 10 in the German city of Frankfurt.”

“A welcome result is the 32 incentive trips that have already confirmed their attendance this year and in the early going of 2004. We’re peppering up the work at the Convention Bureau and these confirmed trips are sending a pretty good signal after all.”

“And we’re very pleased by the fact that Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism is certainly going at great lengths to branch out destinations and make the issue of congress and incentive travel the centerpiece of this year’s convention.”
