Cuba is in for scuba diving multi-destination programs with other Caribbean nations

Cuba’s potentials as a destination for scuba diving enthusiasts and its projects to tap into this modality together with other Caribbean nations were displayed at the 2003 Diving Expo, a weeklong event that took place in Varadero with a turnout of divers, tour operators and experts from nearly a dozen countries.

The gathering included theoretical sessions in which outstanding personalities dictated a number of lectures. One of the top attendants was Mauricio Hadler, a scuba diving expert who touched on the development of the diving industry.

On the other hand, Miguel Alejandro Figueras, an advisor to the Minister of Tourism, talked about the island nation’s potentials and perspectives as far as scuba diving is concerned.

Cuba is penciled in as one of the Caribbean’s premiere destinations for scuba diving buffs . The country counts on all necessary equipment and trainers, plus 37 diving centers spotted on both the northern and southern shorelines for all-year-round immersions. Many of those centers are equipped with hyperbaric chambers and all necessary means to whisk off potentially injured divers in a quick and safe manner.

In keeping with the World Tourism Organization’s rating, Cuba ranks 27th among the best scuba diving destinations under the sun and its sea bottoms stand out for their preservation, visibility, transparency and safety.
