Cubadisco 2005 to Focus on Female Musicians, Japan

This ninth edition of Cubadisco, the island nation´s top music festival, will come around in May with a view to highlight the presence of women in music and to honor Japan as the guest country.

Organizers told Caribbean News Digital they have planned a schedule that pays tribute to Cuba´s female musicians and their contribution to their homeland´s arts.

Cubadisco President Ciro Benemelis noted this year´s edition will feature a contest of Cuban women musicians from each and every province, plus a closing show with all the winners and a tour around the country´s major cities.

Mr. Benemelis went on to explain the choice of Japan as the guest nation is a tribute to this Asian nation´s steady contribution to the world music catalog.

Cuban rhythms and beats are all the rage in Japan and there are even some band that only play Cuban music during their onstage presentations.

Japan boasts a hefty music market and industry that might open a magnificent window of opportunity for Cuban record labels and artists.
