Debate on Tourism, Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development Comes to a Close in Spain

Sponsored by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the Universal Cultural Forum of Barcelona 2004 wrapped up a debate entitled Tourism, Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development.

Planned by the Institute of Responsible Tourism, the debate featured the participation of the World Tourism Organization, an entity that played a major role in the organization of the event and the selection of paper works.

Hundreds of industry professionals from over fifty countries, including the Tourism Ministers of Ecuador, Ethiopia and Mexico, the Minister of Economy, Growth and Competitiveness of Cape Verde, and the Indonesian Vice Minister of Tourism, attended the meeting in Spain. At the same time, participants huddled with impresarios, local authorities, NGO representatives and scholars.

After rounds of discussions and numerous workshops, attendants to the forum passed the Declaration on Tourism, Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development.
