Eddy Martinez, executive director of the Dominican Export & Import Center (CEI), took a grand tour this week around a number of colleges and technological parks, and contacted with British impresarios in an effort to draw cash flow from that European nation to the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Martinez told the British audience the Dominican Republic has what it takes to accept foreign investments, especially in the field of tourism, telecommunications, seaports and airports, and over three million visitors every year.

In addition to making British entrepreneurs rivet their attention on such fields as phone communications, software development, biotechnology and farming, Santo Domingo is highly interested in fostering investment in healthcare, chiefly in applied technology in the treatment of certain ailments, plastic surgery and medical equipment.

Mr. Martinez explained he´s also held talks with airline representatives, such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, and urged them to take account of both the scope and value of his country´s travel industry. “That explains away the need to open more regular routes and charter flights,” he beamed.
