The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism will be the presenting sponsor of the second annual Cap Cana Championship, an official PGA Tour’s Champions Tour event held on the country's east coast. Since the first designer course opened in the Dominican Republic over a decade ago, golf has been a booming facet for the country’s growing tourism industry.

Millions of viewers will watch the Cap Cana Championship aired internationally on Golf Channel. DR Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia said, “The world's best golf courses and the most remarkable scenery have combined on our beautiful island of Hispaniola making the DR golf’s international ‘It’ destination.

The prestigious Cap Cana Championship will offer visitors a slice of heaven with magnificent views of the Caribbean Sea and breathtaking lush vistas of the Punta Espada Golf Club.”

Recently named the number one golf course in Mexico and the Caribbean by Golfweek magazine, Punta Espada Golf Club is one of the DR’s most remarkable courses. “Our partnership with the PGA Tour’s Champions Tour provides a significant boost to the DR as a golf destination,” said Dr. Ricardo Hazoury, president of Cap Cana’s Board of Directors. “Not only is the direct economic impact substantial for the weeks surrounding the island's only professional golf tournament, but the worldwide exposure including 15 hours on Golf Channel will provide residual benefits for years to come.”

The Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada Golf Club will host 78 Champions Tour players for the tournament culminating on March 29 and featuring a $2.1 million purse, with the winner receiving $315,000. Golf Channel will provide live coverage of the tournament March 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT and March 28 and 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
