Dominican Republic to Zero In On the Provinces of Samana, Puerto Plata at FITUR 2006
The Dominican Republic´s Tourism Desk in Spain and Portugal will roll out a heavy promotional blitz of the country during the upcoming 26th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) to be held at the Madrid´s IFEMA Fairgrounds from January 25 to 29.
Authorities are planning to throw most of the limelight on the provinces of Samana and Puerto Plata, a couple of breathtaking locations perched on the north coast that Dominican officials are bent on making two of the Caribbean´s finest travel destinations.
Aida Rosa Pezzotti, chief of the Dominican Tourism Desk in Spain and Portugal, said recently that the Samana area is rapidly becoming an emerging market with a number of tourism development projects underway.
As far as Puerto Plata is concerned, the Dominican government is planning to ante up some $46.7 million in a number of projects aimed at cleaning up the local beaches and the surrounding environment. Among those projects in the pipeline, the building of a botanical garden and a seawall –home to countless eateries, restaurants, clubs and condos- are major standouts.
