Dominica's PM Says Airport Needs $15 Million in Repairs

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt said it will take nearly $15 million to restore the Douglas-Charles Airport, which was damaged in Tropical Storm Erika on Aug. 26.

“The airport has been heavily impacted. Every piece of equipment at the airport has been destroyed beyond use and therefore needs to be replaced,” Skerritt said in a statement.

The smaller Canefield Airport will be used by small planes, but larger aircraft used by Seaborne Airlines and LIAT will continue to use neighboring islands Guadeloupe and Martinique. From there, passengers traveling to Dominica can take the ferry.
