Ecuador´s Sustainable Tourism Model, Stand Were Prized in ITB 2005
The Yechana Lodge Hotel in the Ecuadorian province of Napo and the country´s Tourism Ministry received top honors in the categories of sustainable tourism and best exposition, respectively, during the recently concluded International Tourism Fair in Berlin.
The ITB jury recognized the Yachana Lodge Hotel -yachana means a place to learn in Quichua language- for fostering interaction between guests and the surrounding environment. The establishment is perched on a mountain community along the Napo River banks and is run by the Comprehensive Education and Development Foundation.
Peru, Ecuador and Martinique, in that order, won the awards to the best expositions. Ecuador, for its part, set up a 240-square-yard stand entirely built with homemade materials.
