Excelencias Group Presented Awards during ITB Berlin 2008

As part of its activities within the framework of the International Tourism Fair in Berlin (ITB 2008), the Excelencias Group followed up on a process the company kicked off earlier this year at Madrid’s FITUR and handed over the remaining 2008 Excelencias Awards. These recognitions were doled out on a yearly basis among institutions, governments and personalities that help foster the advance of the travel industry in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 2008 Excelencias Awards were bestowed on the following countries and organizations:

  • Certificate and trophy to the Republic of Cuba’s Tourism Ministry for the adequate tourism-oriented use of the country’s architectural heritage.
  • Certificate and trophy to the City of Havana’s Historian Office for the preservation and recovery of historic heritage in Old Havana’s historic core.
  • Certificate and trophy to the Mexican state of Jalisco for the preservation of Mexico’s purest traditions.
  • Certificate and trophy to Aruba’s Tourism Ministry and Authority for being the safest island in the Caribbean.
  • Certificate and trophy to Brazil’s Tourism Ministry for the advance and preservation of the country’s northeast coastal area.
  • Certificate and trophy to the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Department for the development and recovery of the country’s beaches.
  • Certificate and trophy to the Globalia Group for being the largest and fastest growing hotel chain in the Caribbean region.

Tourism ministers and officials from the award-recipient bodies, countries and organizations attending ITB Berlin 2008, received the recognitions from the Excelencias Group’s president and CEO Jose Carlos de Santiago.
