First Annual Chef of the Year Contest Held in the Dominican Republic
Coral by Hilton all-inclusive resorts recently celebrated their first annual “Chef of the Year 2006” contest at Coral by Hilton Hamaca in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.
Culled from all four Coral by Hilton properties in Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, Bayahibe and Puerto Plata, the chefs vied with each other to prepare the mouthwatering dishes that went on to form part of the menus that grace their guests’ tables around the island.
Preliminary competitions were held at each resort leading up to the final “Chef of the Year 2006” awards. Coral by Hilton Canoa, Coral by Hilton Costa Caribe, Coral by Hilton Hamaca and Coral by Hilton Marien each held a series of eliminations resulting in a total of four chefs to advance to the finals and compete for the coveted title.
Each chef presented three dishes; soup, appetizer, and entrée and was evaluated on presentation, creativity and overall flavor from the distinguished panel of judges that included government officials, travel industry executives and local media. In addition to the “Chef of the Year 2006” title, awards were given for Best Pastry Chef, Best Pantry Chef, Best Soup, Best Appetizer and Best Entrée.
