First Dominican Forum on Tourism vs. Globalization Discussed Key Issues

The pressures threatening today´s tourism as a the main engine that drives poor economies were discussed by experts from different countries in the Golden Beach vs. Globalization Forum held recently in the Dominican Republic.

Chile´s former President Eduardo Frei delivered a lecture in which he blasted terrorism and international security problems as the main roadblocks to the advance of the world travel industry.

Mr. Frei mentioned monetary irregularities and other tribulations that are having a negative impact on international cash flows and tourism, by far –he said- the top job creator in today´s world.

Natural disasters were also widely debated at the meeting, especially the December 26 killer tsunamis in South East Asia and recent mudslides occurred in Puerto Plata, home to the Dominican forum.

Attendants to the conclave agreed to enhance research and prevention of natural disasters in an effort to preserve ecological resources, modern tourism´s chief attractions.

The Puerto Plata event –summoned to muster up international interest in this gorgeous travel destination- also opened up a window of opportunity to mull over the challenges of Latin American nations in the face of globalization.

The topic was broached by Dominican Deputy Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Trullolz, who referred to governing stability and democracy as key players in the development of regional countries. Other speakers touched on the need to overcome poverty as one of the top challenges in today´s globalized world.
