Guatemala to host the 18th Inter American Tourism Congress this month

The 18th Inter American Tourism Congress will get cracking from June 18 to 20 under the sponsorship of the Organization of American States (OAS), said Ester Brol, a spokesperson for the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT).

Planners expect a huge turnout with delegations headed by hemispheric tourism ministers and OAS representatives to each and every of the region’s 34 nations belonging to that organization. The private sector and European representatives are also supposed to attend the conclave.

The congress is a conference of OAS experts held within the framework of the Inter American Council for Integrated Development, an institution that promotes cooperation activities.

Some of the issues to be broached there include air transportation, the social and economic impact of terrorist attacks on tourism, and the need to keep up the sector’s competitiveness. The gathering will also come at the right time to assess the new challenges, sort out the possible solutions and define top-priority areas before mapping out joint projects.

The agenda also conceives an appraisal on cruise tourism in the hemisphere, the bankrolling of programs for that particular industry, marketing strategies and the sector’s branching out.
