Habanarte 2015 Draws Nearer

Having the chance to revel in and take a closer look at artistic expressions going on in Cuba, from September 3-13, is no doubt the driving force behind the Habanarte 2015 Festival, this time around celebrating its second edition by the hand of its official incoming agency, Paradiso, a cultural travel agency run by Artex.
Turning Havana’s cultural life into a top-drawer choice –based on the quality of its proposals- is just another goal and motivation of the Ministry of Culture, the event’s sponsor. The event is attended by all cultural institutions and by thousands of representatives from music, fine arts, literature, performing arts and dance, who sign up to take on the opportunity of showcasing all the art at once.
The lineup of artists announced by the Musicalia and Clave Cubana agencies –both run by Artex- includes Ernesto Blanco, David Blanco y su grupo, David Álvarez y Juego de Manos, Yumurí y sus Hermanos, Yaíma Sáez, Paulito FG, Laritza Bacallao, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Anacaonaand Juan Formell y los Van Van. With their credentials, attendees will be entitled to watch all the performances scheduled for this mega-event.
One of the festival’s highlights this year will be the tribute to celebrated Cuban crooner Omara Portuondo, slated for September 10 at the Karl Marx Theater and to be attended by a bevy of Cuban music heavyweights.
In a press conference held on June 26 at Artex’s “El Sauce” Cultural Center, Ivette Leyva, PR Director with the Ministry of Culture, also announced that this year’s Habanarte will count on the performances of the Camaguey Ballet Company, Cuba’s Spanish Dance Company, the Santiago Alfonso Company and the National Folkloric Dance Group.
In addition, there will be master lectures and workshops at the University of the Arts, and the organizers hope to see international artists jump on the festival’s bandwagon.
The National Museum of Fine Arts, with its permanent and traveling exhibits, will welcome visitors, together with the National Museum of Decorative Arts, the Ernest Hemingway Museum, the Dance Museum and the Servando Cabrera Museum & Library.
Cuban’s National Film Depository and the ICAIC Animation Studios will host workshops on “Eight Decades of Cuban Cinema” and “How to Make Cartoons”.
Pabellón Cuba will be the venue of choice for the tradeshow as an extension to the Arte en La Rampa Fair, open from July 3. Artex is present there with several sale outlets selling the sought-after Arte en Casa product line that embraces leathery, school stationery, CDs, literature, garments and clothing accessories.
In addition to the cultural centers in the island nation’s capital that belong to Artex – El Sauce, Café Miramar, El Salón Rosado de La Tropical “Benny Moré”, Submarino Amarillo, La Casa de 18 and Bertolt Bretch, as well as those run by EGREM- theaters, movie theaters and Casa de las Americas will also join the program with the launch of albums, books and exhibits that for ten days will give visitors the chance to see all the art at once they can imagine and a little bit more…
