The last element in Acapulco’s sprawling Mundo Imperial Complex, the Resort At Mundo Imperial, has partially opened. Half of its inventory of rooms debuted in September, with the second half scheduled to open on November 1, said Seyed Rezvani, managing director of Mundo Imperial.

The Mundo Imperial Complex, which will play host to Tianguis Turistico March 23 to 26, is comprised of four elements: The Forum, a 4,000-seat entertainment center featuring an eclectic array of performances; the Expo and convention center, the third largest in Mexico; an outdoor promenade with restaurants, shops, and live entertainment; and the new hotel.

The Resort at Mundo Imperial is equipped with 10 shops, a fitness facility, six restaurants, kids and teen clubs, a business center and spa, Nova’ProClay tennis courts and six swimming pools. Some suites measure up to 7,000 square feet, Rezvani said.

Not surprisingly, Rezvani noted that the hotel’s most important market is meetings and conventions. “We’re the only huge hotel adjacent to a convention center,” he said. “There’s nothing like it in Mexico.”

The convention center, which opened 18 months ago, has brought in expos and conventions that the city would have been unable to handle in the past, said Rezvani, adding that the complex is playing a major role in stimulating Acapulco’s economy.

For its part, Acapulco’s gentrification is continuing unabated, Rezvani said. “You can only really see really signs of great improvement,” he said. “I only see Acapulco going up.”
