Iberian-American presidents committed to boosting tourist development

Heads of state from 21 Latin American countries, plus Spain and Portugal, agreed in the recently concluded Summit of Bavaro held in the Dominican Republic to give tourist development a powerful leg up, the regional leaders underscored in the event’s final declaration.

“We express our determination to boost the development of sustainable tourism as a dynamic tool to fight off poverty and guarantee an efficient management of resources, respect to the peoples’ cultural integrity, protection of the environment and quality of the kind of tourism offered by Iberian-American nations,” the document highlights.

The plan is aimed at raising living standards and fostering the creation of new jobs, earning sources and more business opportunities for both small-time and midsize companies.

Moreover, the plan seeks to push the development of differentiated tourist products at a local level, to provide better education and training for the development of tourist products, and put together technology information and transfer systems.
