Madrid to Hold First International Symposium on Liberalization and Trade of Tourist Services

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) in cooperation with the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will hold an international symposium aimed at helping governments and travel companies alike keep a hands-on participation in the ongoing liberalization process of the leisure industry worldwide. The event is scheduled for the Madrid Conference Center.

At issue there -among other topics- will be the influence of liberalization on corporate initiatives, competition, sustainable development and ways to bring poverty levels down.

The symposium will tackle the stance of tourist service in the light of the General Agreement on Service Commerce and the Doha Development Program following the failure of the Fifth Ministerial Conference held last September in Cancun.

At the end of the symposium -in the afternoon of March 23- there´ll be an open Q-and-A session for the private sector, the civil society and the media.
