Malta to Host European Forum on Tourism

After the European Tourism Forum in Budapest last year, it will be the turn of yet another new member state of the European Union, Malta, to host the fourth edition, this time around between October 19 and 21, 2005.

The event is being jointly organized by the Malta government and the European Commission –in collaboration with the United Kingdom government, which is presently holding the EU presidency until December 2005.

The forum will once again huddle civil society and European, national and regional authorities to discuss some key challenges facing the sector and also to agree upon joint actions to achieve progress.

There will be three principal workshops organized during the forum dealing with competitiveness, better regulation and sustainable development.

The first edition of this forum was held in Brussels in November 2001 and the outcome of that meeting included a statement titled: “Working Together for the Future of European Tourism.”

The European Union represents the major share of global tourism offering opportunities to thousands of small to medium sized businesses ad employees throughout all of its sectors.
