Marriott Targets March 1 Opening for Haiti Hotel

Three-and-a-half years after Marriott's announcement of its first hotel in Haiti, the doors will open on March 1.

The 175-room Marriott Port-au-Prince is in Haut Turgeau, minutes from the city’s commercial district, and is a collaboration between Marriott International, the Digicel Group and the Clinton Foundation.

At the time of the announcement in November 2011, former President Bill Clinton said the new hotel "will stand as a symbol of Haiti's recovery, providing much-needed jobs to the Haitian people and encouraging foreigners to visit, invest and work in Haiti."

Since then, other international brands have raised their flags in Haiti, including Best Western, Occidental and NH Hotel Group. A Hilton Garden Inn is due to open at Louverture Airport in 2016.

Facilities at the Marriott include an outdoor pool and terrace, La Sirene restaurant, Café Cho, meeting venues, a fitness center and the Great Room lobby lounge.

WiFi is complimentary and property-wide. Introductory rates through May 31 start at $149 per room, per night, double. A grand opening celebration will take place this summer.
