International participation in FITUR continues to grow and, with less than a week before the opening of the trade fair, official representatives of Cambodia and the Philippines have joined up.

The presence of travel organizations from these countries is added to that of other governmental entities, such as Botswana and Myanmar, who are attending the fair for the first time too. The twenty-ninth edition of the trade fair will also include the proposals for a new destination –Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As well as having new participants, Southern Asia is one of the areas that has registered the greatest growth in the Fair’s 2009 meeting as much in its exhibition area as in the number of companies represented. Among the countries which have notably increased their presence India, Nepal and Bhutan are to be noted.

The new participation and the growth of the consolidated territories give evidence of the importance the travel industry is acquiring as a development motor in emerging areas such as Asia, and shows the utility that these entities find in FITUR to promote their tourist destinations.

This fact is confirmed by the interest shown by many countries in being present on the privileged commercial platform that the Fair represents. In this context, FITUR ‘09 will again feature offers from the Tourist Office of Kenya –that has recently opened a representative agency in Spain- and Mozambique, that after being absent several times, is returning this year with official representation.

At the same time, Sao Tome y Principe, Greenland and Mozambique, who appeared at FITUR for the first time in 2008, have already renewed their presence at the trade fair after the good results obtained last year.

In all, the international area of the fair will occupy approximately 45 percent of the total offer. An offer that is complimented by the national offer and the most competitive companies in this sector.
