Mexico Hangs Out Low Hotel Fares to Spur Travel in Off-Peak Season
Hotel fares are sloughing as much as 40 percent off all across the country in an effort to build a fire under travel during the now fledgling off-peak season, said Jorge Hernandez Delgado, chairman of the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies.
Mr. Delgado explained most travel agencies see sales of packages drop dramatically during the off-peak season, so there´s no better time to slash hotel fares and make offer far more luring for foreign visitors.
With that purpose in mind, Mr. Delgado´s organization has just signed an agreement with the nation´s Tourism Department to plan trips for the elderly all across Mexico and keep travel on a roll.
Carmen Gutierrez, marketing manager of Hyatt Hotels in Mexico, said her company is cutting down on fares by as much as 40 percent and launching out an aggressive promotional campaign to spur trips from overseas.
May and June, as well as September and October, are by far the lowest travel inflow months of the year in Mexico, so those interested in journeying to Cancun or Acapulco find in these periods the best time to travel.
