More Aqua Expedition Crew Members Reported Missing in the Amazon River

Earlier this week, Aqua Expeditions founder Francesco Galli Zugaro announced the number of people who had gone missing when the Aqua Amazon cruise ship exploded and sank in the Amazon River Saturday had climbed to seven.
As of Monday night, two bodies had been recovered and identified, but five others were still missing. Of the seven victims, five were crew members on the 24-passenger Aqua Amazon and two were external suppliers.
In addition, eight crew members are currently recovering in a local hospital following the explosion onboard the ship. Three of the injured employees are in the intensive care unit, and the other five are receiving the necessary medical attention.
“We have been in close contact with their families and have been keeping them fully informed of news of their loved ones during this difficult time,” Zugaro said in a statement. “Many of the crew have been with me from 2007 when we started. I considered them dear friends, not just employees.”
According to Aqua Expeditions, the cause of the fire and explosion onboard the Aqua Amazon has yet to be determined, but a formal investigation is underway. The company is working closely with authorities to find out what went wrong.
Zugaro and his team also shared their appreciation to industry partners, guests, families and friends who have shown their support in such a tough time. Aqua Expeditions will provide further details about the incident when they become available.
