Nature, Immersions are high on Cuba’s Top Scuba Diving Event

The second edition of 2004 Expobuceo will take place in late June and early July in the Cuban province of Matanzas, with most of the activities unfolding in its main scuba diving sites of Varadero and the Zapata Marshlands.

With a view to scour Cuba’s surroundings and share underwater experiences, scores of professional divers, representatives of Cuban nautical companies, members of diving schools from around the world, travel agents and media organizations will huddle there.

For the first time ever, the event will devote some time to broach the Caribbean’s largest wetland (the Zapata Peninsula), declared both a biosphere reserve and a RAMSER site not too long ago.

Some of the island nation’s best scuba diving sites –Playa Giron, Caleta Buena and Horizontes Hotels’ new diving school- are all within the boundaries of the Zapata Marshlands.

The event’s agenda includes a couple of master lectures entitled Situation and Trends of Scuba Diving in Cuba and Development of Scuba Diving in the Caribbean by Miguel Alejandro Figueras and Caterina Matachiera, respectively.
